Shepherd Distribution Services is celebrating 70 years of success during 2016 as they reach the 70th anniversary since their humble beginnings in a very different Sheffield, still recovering from the effects of the Second World War.
Shepherd Distribution Services as it is now known was set up in 1946 by Jack Shepherd as a full load steel haulier which transported steel loads throughout the UK from their Oughtibridge base. During their 70 year history the company has seen significant changes and is now in the very capable hands of proud owners Laurence Abel & Ian Davis at its three acre Birley Vale site which it was relocated to after the company expanded in 1994.
Ian Davis who took over the company with Laurence in 2010 said: “We are so proud to be a specialist operator in the heart of the steel industry of Sheffield and to see what the company has achieved over the last seven decades.
“Since the turn of the century the company has gone from strength to strength and as we celebrate 70 years of service it’s exciting to look to the future and see what it holds for Shepherd Distribution Services.”
Shepherd Distribution Services now offers specialist groupage services to the metals and engineering sectors and is a shareholding member of the Palletline network, enabling the business to offer an even broader range of services to both new and existing customers.
Co-owner Laurence Abel added: “To echo Ian’s words it is an extremely proud time for Shepherds and we have lots of events planned to mark our Platinum Anniversary. Looking back it’s great to see how the company has evolved and just how much it has achieved in the last seventy years – I prefer to think of us not as 70 years old but seventy years young!”
Operating a modern fleet, with excellent motorway access and 50,000 sqft of warehousing, Shepherd Distribution Services continues to grow and puts their success down to being hard-working and extremely customer focussed.
