Palletised Distribution
Palletised Distribution Hubs

A Hub is what we refer to a central point where Palletline Pallet Network members exchange their freight, each and every working day and night.

Palletline operate three palletised distribution hub - Birmingham, North London and Manchester. Although originally operating as a single hub system, focused on Birmingham, the growth of the network and technological enhancements has enabled us to now operate two regional hubs, Perviale in London and near the Trafford Centre in Manchester.

So how does a Palletised Distribution Hub operate?

Every Pallet Network probably works in slightly different ways but we can tell you about how our Palletline Hubs operate.

Each of our Hubs operate in the same manner, from the booking system right through to the quality control, unload and reload process. The layout is slightly different at each site but the overall operation exactly the same.

At each of our Hubs, the palletised freight will be scanned, quality checked, sorted and trans-shipped from one member to another. Its a highly efficient operation and if you see it in full swing it can be awe inspiring as fork lift truck drivers work in unison to unload and reload vehicles en masse.

How can you track a pallet's progress through the Palletised Distribution Hub?

Our industry leading IT systems enables us to scan pallets as they pass through each of our Hub operations. Using our high tech hand held scanners which incorporate a colour camera, we scan every pallet as part of our Quality Control process. If there are any issues spotted then we can immediately take a colour photo of the pallet and upload on to our web system for our members to see.

The hand held scanners are also used to track vehicles and their loads of palletised freight, arriving and moving around the site.

Our CCTV system at our main Hub in Birmingham is such high resolution that we can zoom in to a picture and read the smallest letters on our labels. The system is set up to take an automatic picture of the loading of each trunk vehicle arriving and departing the site. In the event of a query we can provide a picture of an individual pallet as it arrives and as it departs the hub.
